Interlude
2019
The Interlude series reflects on moments of contemplation from diverse perspectives, seeking to restore a sense of harmony within the state of mind. The works symbolise (post-)painterly strategies, combining abstraction and minimalism with advanced techniques. In my structural investigations of image-making, I employ monochrome digital images and photography, using straightforward reproduction processes such as scanning, photocopying, photo manipulation and laser printing, which are then overlaid with imitations of painterly gestures transferred onto canvas.
These manual imprints, with their underlying expressiveness, evoke the history of painting while simultaneously appearing as contradictory signs, suggesting conceptual intentions. On the one hand, the works open a dialogue between artwork and viewer; on the other, through the interplay of digital and manual techniques, they reflect on how technological mediation reshapes the notion of self, introducing new modes of perception into artistic practice.
